Migration pathways of Some Peregrine Falcons
Migration pathways of Peregrine Falcons fitted with satellite transmitters in the three regions shown in the map. This important 5-year research Project was done on behalf of Environmental Agency, Abu Dhabi by Dr. Andrew Dixon , Dr. Aleksandr and Dr. Vasiliy Sokolov. MAP courtesy of FALCO, Newsletter of the Middle East Falcon Research Group. Satellite tracking of raptors is increasingly becoming an important research tool in studying migration patterns including mortality patterns of migrating raptors. Very little is known about raptors migrating to India, their foraging sites, wintering roosts, etc. Newer technology is bringing out smaller and lighter PTT’s that can be fitted on the smaller falcons opening up new vistas in raptor research.
